Not the Usual Thanksgiving Post

Saturday was a life changer for us.  Yet, when writing about this, I wanted to share a little deeper perspective.

I see my friends (okay, not many, I recognize at 45 not many of my friends are grandparents) talking about having a new grandchild.  I'm happy for them, but I didn't realize the reality of what it means.... what happened to get to this place.  (Okay, I know WHAT happened, but the reality of the walk to this point.)

Picture your child (seriously, think about it) as they say, "Mom/Dad, I'm having a baby."

You see them slowly getting bigger. Early morning calls are fielded, asking if something is "normal".  Imagine glancing at them and noticing their belly is moving...your daughter's belly.  You may see a little elbow crossing their entire stomach.

This is your little girl.

She ran around at two holding with her friend Matthew, tripping and falling every three steps (only when she was growing).  Her daddy baptized her at ten years old.  At fifteen she liked a boy, but chose not to date...to be very deliberate about her dating...to date with intent.

Then she met him.  He rocked her whole world.  They married...

Look at your child and imagine that.

Saturday I (and Rocio...Ivan's mom) held my daughters hand, only occasionally to spell her husband (who was a pillar of strength and love for our daughter).

We watched her fight painful contractions, breathing through them.

My mommy heart wanted to take away this pain.  She turned down pain medication again and again.  It wasn't until about hour thirteen, that the labor pains increased to unbearable.

Photo credit needs to go to Nathan here.  I love the above picture.

I watched my daughter's body shake, as if in shock.  They had to give her pain medication just to give her an epidural (for the shaking to stop).

She was beautiful...and it was painful to watch.  She was so brave.  Rocio and I stayed with them, honored and privileged to be a part of this.

After almost 21 hours, the time came and a little life was born out of two families becoming one.  It wasn't just a grandchild...it was life.  It was time for us to see a miracle from God.  From two people coming together....

Our grandchild is a part of us too.

See...hear...your child's pain.

Picture that moment they become a mom or dad.

It's more than I can describe on a blog.

It's beauty...a continuing...and a moment that is holy.

This is our time of Thanksgiving.

Immanent Prayer Request:
*Please pray for Sarah and her healing. She had a traumatic delivery (not typical).  Please also pray for the continued health of our new granddaughter

Our Prayer Requests:
*Please pray for our continued adoption journey.  Please pray protection over our family and the ever expanding number of children (here and across the world).  The master of lies loves to mess with anyone trying to follow God.
*Please pray for a financial way.  Continue funds for the adoption and many unusual expenses that happen...some only every five years.  They just happen to have happened all at once during back to back adoptions.  We are taking a deep breath and trusting God.
*Please pray for our beautiful pregnant daughter-in-love, Elizabeth and one precious extended family member (Lexi) who is expecting.   Please pray for both of the babies and their health...and health of the mommies.
*Please pray we GLORIFY GOD in ALL THINGS.  This is the most important.

Our Friends:
*Please pray for an extended family member's mother Laura.  She has cancer and it isn't good.
*PLEASE pray for a young teen named Alyssa.  She has brain cancer and has had many brain surgeries at this point.  They just found cancer at the base of her spine.  PLEASE pray for healing.  (She is the daughter of two friends from college.)  Please also pray for her family.  She is on our heart constantly.
*Please pray for my husband's friend at work.  He lost his mother-in-law two weeks ago. (The Windom family)
*Please pray for my friend Elizabeth, as she they have found cancer on her foot.  Please also pray for insurance to approve this quickly!
*Please pray for K and G.  They have just lost their precious baby.

PRAISE:
*God has answered our prayers and October 31st we were able to complete another big step in our adoption.
*God has answered our prayers for the next funds due for the adoption (due within two weeks)
*God answered the prayers for the deposit on Jael's wheelchair.  It left me speechless and in tears.

In the joy of following our Heavenly Father, we sometimes choose to proceed with a whisper, a verse, or a downright shove...no matter how we follow Him, the momentum that follows is like nothing we've ever experienced before.

Join the momentum...it is a beautiful place to be. It's not always easy, but then the best things never are.
