Passports, Pictures, and Prayer

Our little guy surprised us with a new look today.  He beats our dysfunctional rooster friend any day ( I do think the rooster is stalking me though).

Benjamin needed to get his passport picture today to prepare for AFTER the ten day wait (ending somewhere around a week from Monday), so the institution dressed him a little differently.  Truthfully, any change is a little tough for him.  There's a lot of fear coming from a routine day after day and then all of a sudden finding out life outside exists.

He also had another first.  We went in a car for a GOOD reason (not a transfer to another institution).

Waiting for the car....

In the car with mommy...

He did great in the car with very little acting out at ALL.  He didn't want to sit on my lap, but between Thomas and I.  We are seeing this a lot...him not wanting one of us, but BOTH of us.

At the Photographers

When we arrived back we saw (on the surface) a happy little boy.  Underneath he was scared though.  It came out in the first self harming behavior that we have seen.  He would hit himself hard in the chin with his fist and pinch his own legs.  His insides were going haywire and he was excited, terrified, and confused at his first new experiences in YEARS.

We are already working to combat the behavior created in an environment he had no control over.  It breaks me somewhere deep inside when he harms himself.

Deep tissue massage (firm/deep touch) calms him some and we are trying several things we know may help.  It's all about finding some things that works for HIM.  We also held him firmly, while rocking and singing...which is somewhat effective.

Benjamin trying to make daddy give him the ball back.

He gave up...lol.

More Daddy time...

Ben has a long road ahead, but is WONDERFUL and a gift from God.  He shows signs of listening, learning, and even trying to control himself ALREADY.  Remember we've only been here since Thursday afternoon.

Did we know Benjamin was our son before today?  Yes.  Today it was official though and the government recognized it as well.

My Facebook status today:
"We have football team, it's official. My husband has achieved his goal (plus one in Heaven, which gives us an edge ). Benjamin has joined the craziness. He is a member of our family."

We do have a request (prayer) that we need covered though.  Without getting into too much detail, please pray that the registrar office removes our son from the  orphan registry (makes it easy).  It sounds like there is a possibility, because the person is new, that it may be difficult (which would extend our stay and make it much more expensive...which is concerning).

We appreciate (as always) ALL prayers (and praise to God for all HE has done).  We're not home yet...beyond blessed...but not home yet.

Before I share the remainder of the prayer requests, I think I'll share some of the goofiness we saw back home on Skype.

Anna was talking very animatedly about her lizard.  She's trying to convince us she needs a female Green Anole to breed them.

Rachel decided to tell us she was NOT a fairy today, but Cinderella.  She was showing us her Cinderella dance moves and we MADE (bwahahaha) Sarah do the Cinderella dance too.  She's a good big sister.

Woops...they discovered I was taking a picture.  My oldest daughter is BEAUTIFUL, but makes the BEST faces EVER!

Max as we were messing with him...all the way from Eastern Europe.  Awesome kid!!!

ALL Prayer Requests

*Please pray that God continues to prepare Benjamin's heart and Ben dreams of us...knowing us...in ways that wouldn't make sense to the world.  Please pray he attaches and learns to love (and learns what family is) quicker than we can fathom.  Please also pray that God calms him and his spirit.  This will be scary for him.

*PLEASE pray that the master of lies hands are tied.

*Please pray that the small town's gates are “figuratively” thrown down and God’s love floods the streets.

*Please pray our children at home are safe...physically/emotionally/and spiritually.  Attacks on the kids happened last time we were gone on the trip to bring Jael home.  PLEASE cover them.  Also, please pray for safety specifically for our oldest (Tom) as he will be on a senior trip for a week part of our second trip to Eastern Europe.

*Please also pray as our children at home try to stay organized in our absence, that things go smoothly for them and time passes quickly.

*Please pray for my husband and I, for our SAFETY and that we remain WELL.  We are going somewhere VERY rural with no one that speaks English most of the time.

*Please pray for my mom, brother, and friends as they care for our children (safety, smoothness, etc.)

* Please pray that the current trip has a speed that can only be explained as a blessing of God.

*Please pray that our trip home with Ben is peaceful and uneventful.  Please pray that calm (beyond understanding) reigns for our sweet Benjamin and that we see what we need to do to help him.

*That ALL paperwork needed is sped (by God's Will) in country (with NO hiccups). That the registrar quickly and easily removes Benjamin from the orphan registry, making things easy.

*Please pray that court goes EXTREMELY easy and quick.  It doesn't always.

*Please pray for comfort as we continue to mourn Jonathan.

*Please pray for us to have a connection with the head of the institution. God has given us a love for the head of the institution and the caregivers.  Also, please pray for our connection to those in the village.

*Please pray that the head of this institution shows us where Benjamin has resided these last two years...and around the institution and laying rooms.  This is a wish, but we respect their decision.

*Please pray the trip  itself is smooth.  There are NO issues.  That every blip, every hiccup...is ironed out before us.

*Please pray that our lines of communication with our children are successful (Skype, Magic Jack, international texting).  We will be in a very rural region.

*Please pray that we remain rested.

*PLEASE PRAY GOD'S WILL IS DONE*

"About Benjamin He said:
'Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in Him,
for He shields him all day long,
and the one the Lord loves rests between His shoulders.'

Deuteronomy 33:12

  2. Beautiful family! I know you said Ben was small, but he's built so sturdy and looks pretty tall, although I know he's not as tall as he could/should/would be! He is one super handsome guy! And walking! That's a HUGE plus. (((HUGS))) Praying everything moves fast!

  3. Dear God, why do we stand amazed when you answer prayer, when it's your will in the first place? May you keep them safe and thank you for a family so willing to do what you lay on their hearts and the faith in you to get them through anything!

  4. I feel so thrilled every time I see a new picture of Ben. He is precious, and perfectly adorable! Thank you for posting so many, and for keeping everyone updated.
You are in our prayers, and the church will be delighted to hear your news tomorrow.
    God bless you!

In the joy of following our Heavenly Father, we sometimes choose to proceed with a whisper, a verse, or a downright shove...no matter how we follow Him, the momentum that follows is like nothing we've ever experienced before.

Join the momentum...it is a beautiful place to be. It's not always easy, but then the best things never are.
