The Roots in the Darkness

The tree was filled with weeds. Roots had dug down to the core. They crept through the tree and the tree allowed them to grow. It didn't always plant the weeds, but also did not always yank them when the opportunity arose.

The tree is me and you. Weeds are sin, often hidden in dark places.

As the tree grows The Carver prunes the tree, shaping and molding it into perfection. Sometimes, with a swift yank, He plucks a weed right from it's foundation, roots and all...bringing the weed into the Son light.

Son light will kill the weeds in time. It is the ultimate destroyer of these insidious growths.

The remaining hole will heal with time (and Son light).

Sometimes, knowing the TREE must or weeds...The Carver allows the weeds to grow. Oh, He does not want it to grow. He knows how destructive the weeds are. He HATES the weeds. Keeping the eloquence of His creation from really showing at times.

Son light is the ONLY answer.

Our sin remains so long in darkness.

* Sometimes it's shame that keeps it there (like a fertilizer of sorts).
*Sometimes it's fear of condemnation.
*At times it scratches some itch...some itch that makes us feel better. It may make us forget the stress or pain of reality. Sadly, the weed is actually like poison oak, causing the itch itself.

There are times too that we bring the sin into the Son light, only to leave part of a weed's root broken off and still buried deep inside, fearing the pain of bringing out the remainder. We rationalize that it is our sin, therefore no one else should be burdened with it.

We fear rejection or loss.

The root can be tricky. We may not even know where it is. It may be dark...buried deep. The past is often that way. It's buried deep, painful, and digging it out can be a bloody battle.

If left alone, the hidden root will usually grow again and the weed will shade the Son. Sometimes weeds even weave together so tightly that it puts a wall between us and those we love.

It hurts. It can be devastating. It can be filled with relief (the Son light feels great) and/or immense pain.

God never says that shedding light on sin will free us from consequences of it.

What He does say is that He forgives us.

What He does say is that He is with us.

And remember...most important... He loves us so much He placed it on another tree on which His Son hangs.

"When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:20-23

Join the is a beautiful place to be. It's not always easy, but then the best things never are.
